Prabal Gurung for Target: Nice Design; Sometimes Poor Execution Part 1

Prabal Gurung brought his patterned clothing and fun femininity to Target. The designer is known for dressing both Michelle Obama and the Duchess of Cambridge, Kate Middleton

The Target collaboration includes shoes, clothing and accessories. After trying on both shoes and clothes, I found that the items well-designed and that they came at a nice discount (the most expensive shoes were $39.99, while most clothing ranged from $19.99 to $49.99). However, the execution varied, sizing was not standard and materials used were sometimes poor.

Neverthless, the collection drew large crowds and some items quickly sold out online. Not wanting to sleep out, I shopped online. If you spend over $50 shipping is free, and you can return items to the store. Also, if you keep checking, items become available after previously being sold out. I finally made it to my local store this weekend, and found that they still had some clothes and shoes, including items that were sold out online. A store associate said the items will likely go on clearance soon.

Lets discuss the shoes first.

The Prabal Gurung for Target shoe collection included pointy-toed flats in solid colors and a colorful pattern. Picture from Elle.

I ordered the pointy-toed flat in the Nolita print ($29.99) to add a pop of color to my outfits. They were well-made, including some padding inside. The exterior is slightly stiff. I also found they ran a bit small. I wished to order a half size bigger, but unfortunately they were sold out.

Here are the shoes I ordered and the fun box they came in.

I saw the wedge sandal with ankle strap in Apple Red and Black and White online, and instantly wanted them. They were sold out online, but I found a pair in red in my local store. While they looked adorable, they were poorly made. After wearing them only a few minutes, the back upper part of my heels was rubbed red. The zipper closure was rough. I could not imagine wearing them any longer. The ankle straps hit my bone and were uncomfortable. I needed to make them loose, which meant my ankles lacked support. In the end, I left  them on the shelf.

These wedges were adorable but unfortunately uncomfortable.

The collection also included lace-up sandals ($39.99), which looked adorable if not practical and pointy-toed pumps ($39.99).

In my next post, I will discuss the Prabal Gurung for Target clothing. I tried on more of the clothing and found similar issues to that with the shoes.

Did you buy any Prabal Gurung for Target shoes? What do you think of the styles? Are you a fan of Target collaborations?

  1. I did buy the Nolita heels and ankle pumps in sulfur and I love the looks, but I haven't worn them out yet so we'll see. This is the first major investment I've made in a Target collab.

    Thanks for the review!
