Budget Fashionistas Celebrate! Dolce Vita Spring 2011 Collection for Target

Dolce Vita for Target Fall 2010 Boots that I bought for $9.

Target is again bringing designer fashion to the masses. After successful collaborations with designers, such as Rodarte and Zac Posen, Target now offers a collection of Dolce Vita wedges and sandals based on the brand’s spring 2011 collection. The partnership follows a widely talked about Dolce Vita for Target fall 2010 boot and flat collection. (See my short buckle boots above. For the whole collection, check out Nitrolicious)

Dolce Vita, which means “good life,” is known for stylish and flirty shoes and clothing. The Target collection recreates this vibe with styles similar to the brand’s spring 2011 offerings. The selection is limited and less fashion-forward. No platform sandals will be found in Target.

The collection is made up of three styles: cork wedges with thick straps, strappy low-wedge sandals and rope-bottomed wedges, which resembles the brand’s Pela leather wedges. Instead of paying $165 for the original, the Target version can be purchased for $29.99. (For pictures of the collection, see Nitrolicious). Each comes in multiple colors.

The price discount comes with its drawbacks. While the shoes are similar, they lack the grace and simplicity of Dolce Vita’s original spring collection. Furthermore, the faux leather takes less wear and is less comfortable than the real deal. The sizing runs large, so plan on buying a half size smaller than you usually wear. I usually wear a 6 and had plenty of room in a 5 ½. I have yet to wear my boots, but am slightly nervous that they will be uncomfortable or need to be broken in.

If you want the Dolce Vita styles for less, head to your nearest Target or shop online now. However, if you’re willing to wait and the fall collection is any indicator, the shoes will be on sale in a few months. The fall 2010 collection is available at discount prices online and in stores. I paid less in store than the online price. Also, if you are a good discount shopper you will probably be able to find better made shoes for the same price either on sale or in a discount store, like T.J. Maxx.

The Dolce Vita for Target collection does what prior collaborations have done well, give consumers a taste of luxury at a fraction of the price.

The shoes are available in Target stores nationwide and online at www.target.com. The collection is priced between $24.99 and $29.99 and comes in sizes 5 ½ to 11.

What do you think? Do you want to buy a pair? Have you bought designer shoes at Target before?
