Did Pippa Middleton wear the shoes of the summer on her honeymoon?

After a high profile wedding, Pippa Middleton and her husband, James Matthews jetted off to Tahiti, according to the Daily Mail. And all eyes are still on Pippa's dress and shoe choices.

In the next stop, Sydney, she was spotted in espadrille wedges. Espadrilles a popular summer choice, have been called the shoe of summer 2017.

Pippa's pair is the Castaner wedge lace-up espadrilles, according to the Daily Mail. They retail for $175 and are currently sold out.

Other celebrities have also been spotted in espadrilles this summer, including Jennifer Aniston, according to PopSugar.

Also, on her honeymoon, Pippa has been spotted in black L.K. Bennett sandals, according to the Daily Mail. L.K. Bennett is also a favorite of sister Kate Middleton, the Duchess of Cambridge.

Those sandals are still available for just over $90.

Duchess of Cambridge, Kate Middleton may have gotten all the attention for keeping the bridal party filled with children, a common occurrence at British royal weddings, quiet, but I could not help but wonder what shoes she would wear.

True to British royal tradition, Middleton did not want to upstage sister, Pippa and went with very classic pumps.

According to Footwear News, Middleton wore Gianvito Rossi 105 suede pumps, which retail for $675.

The shoes are a very classic choice, although she gets credit for working with children in 4 inch pumps.

Pippa Middleton walked down the isle in a beautiful high-neck lace gown by Giles Deacon, but I could't help but wonder, what shoes were under the beautiful dress.

Middleton, the sister of Duchess of Cambridge, Kate, married James Matthews, a finance exec and former race car driver, in the English countryside. The reception was at her parent's house.

But what shoes did she wear?

According to the Telegraph, Middleton wore white satin Manolo Blahnik shoes with pearl details. They say they were a customized version of the Seneca Bridal shoes, which retail for $925.

Singer Katy Perry launched a shoe line in February, according to People, naming many of the shoes for famous women, including Clinton, whom she campaigned for.

The Hillary shoe came in a light pink, now often referred to as millennial pink, or seafoam green and had a 3.5 inch clear heel with moons and stars floating inside, according to the New York Times. It retailed for $139.

Last week, the singer posted a picture of the former presidential candidate wearing the shoes on instagram with information on how to buy them (see above) and Internet controversy ensued. 

Conservative news websites ran headlines like, "Hillary Clinton Reduced to Modeling Shoes for Katy Perry" (Breitbart), and "Hillary Clinton Now Hawking Katy Perry Shoes On Instagram," (Daily Caller).

Other pointed out that Perry and Clinton have a long relationship. Clinton recently made a surprise appearance at the Unicef Snowflake Ball to present the singer with the Audrey Hepburn Humanitarian Award, according to the NY Times.

However, this was the first time the two connected on fashion. 

For the shoe brand, the results were great, the shoes began to quickly sell and appear now to be unavailable.

Clinton has not benefited in anyway from the shoes.

President Trump and shoes

No matter where you stand on politics, we can all agree that President Trump is making changes. One thing you probably did not expect him to influence is your shoe choices, but that is exactly what has happened.

Here are three shoe brands that have been impacted:

New Balance

Even before the inauguration, sneaker company, New Balance, was feeling the heat.

Wall Street Journal reporter, Sara Germano tweeted this about New Balance.

New Balance makes over 4 million shoes in the U.S. As an American manufacturer, trade deals with other nations could put New Balance at a disadvantage. 

Still, many Americans were not happy with the comment and decided not to buy the brand's shoes any more. Some even took to social media to share videos of them burning the sneakers.

In a statement to Sole Collector, New Balance clarified its position: "As the only major company that still makes athletic shoes in the United States, New Balance has a unique perspective on trade and trade policy in that we want to make more shoes in the United States, not less...New Balance publicly supported the trade positions of Hillary Clinton, Bernie Sanders, and Donald Trump prior to election day that focused on American manufacturing job creation and we continue to support them today."

L.L. Bean

Iconic outdoor brand, L.L Bean, was the next to feel the heat. 

After reports that Linda Bean, a granddaughter of the company's founder, had donated thousands of dollars to a political action committee (PAC) that supported Trump's presidential campaign, liberals began to boycott the company. 

Then, in mid-January, President Trump decided to show support for the retailer on Twitter.

The Twitter endorsement upset many, and some took to social media to say they were throwing out the brand's products or no longer buying from them, according to the NY Times.

Grab Your Wallet, a group that advocates boycotting companies with ties to the Trump Family, added L.L. Bean to their boycott list,

In a statement posted on Facebook, L.L. Bean said, "We were disappointed to learn that Grab Your Wallet is advocating a boycott against L.L.Bean solely because Linda Bean, who is only one of 50+ family members involved with the business, personally supported Donald Trump for President."

"We fully acknowledge and respect that some may disagree with the political views of a single member of our 10-person board of directors. Like most large families, the more than 50 family member-owners of the business hold views and embrace causes across the political spectrum, just as our employees and customers do. And as every member of the family would agree, no individual alone speaks on behalf of the business or represents the values of the company that L.L. built."

The shoes of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame

I recently got to visit the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland, Ohio,

Along with other great memorabilia the museum had the shoes many of the stars wore.

Deep Purple's Glenn Hughes wore these heels around 1973.

Steve Miller wore these around 1980.

Elvis wore plain black shoes with his gold suit in 1968.

Johnny Cash wore these boot on his ABC TV show from 1969-1971.

Carl Perkins wore these snakeskin shoes.

Jorma Kaukonen of Jefferson Airplane wore these heels.

The King of Pop, Michael Jackson, wore these penny loafers during the 1989 Bad tour.

Snoop Dog wore these sneakers around 2000.

The oh-so-fashionable sneaker

When high-heel loving celebrities like Victoria Beckham ditch their heels for sneakers, you know the sneaker has become fashionable.

Nike Tanjun in White and Orange

It started a few years ago with sneaker wedges and now all sorts of retro shoes and trainers are being rocked as both part of an athleisure trend and general fashion.

Over the summer I decided to get in on the trend by buying the Nike Tanjun in white from Famous Footwear for $55.

The solid white look made them summery, without being too outlandish. Perfect for trying out sneakers for non-athletic purposes. I was instantly impressed with their cushioning and how they were comfortable for a whole day with lot of walking.

I tried them out with a few different outfits, including skirts and dresses and they added a fun casual but fashion-forward edge.

I even tried wearing them to work, and with the right outfit they worked. The only problem? They get dirty easily. I am able to hand wash them, but lately have been having more trouble getting stains out.

To avoid the dirt issue, I also bought a pair in bright orange. These are loud, but I have had multiple people stop me to tell me how cute they are.

While these get dirty less easily than the white, they do get dirty as well. I have had success hand washing them.

While many designer brands make sneakers, Allure says it's the affordable Vans than have been all around fall's fashion shows.

Cinderella's Glass Slipper Re-imagined

Prince Charming with Cinderella's glass slipper in Walt Disney World's Main Street Electrical Parade

Next month, Disney's live action Cinderella movie his theaters. As you probably know, I can't think of that story without thinking of the glass slippers.

Now, Disney has asked designers to re-imagine those famous shoes for modern princesses (or adults who still harbor princess dreams). Sketches from the 9 designers have been released and the real shoes will be available in stores in early March. For those of us in the U.S., the shoes will be available from Saks Fifth Avenue in New York and Beverly Hills, according to the press release.

First, check out the movie trailer to see how the live action movie presents the glass slippers:

The glass slippers from the movie seem pretty traditional with butterfly decals on the toes. They were produced by crystal company, Swarovski.

However, the 9 designers selected for the re-imagination went much more modern, with booties and cage heels.

And like the sign that decorates my desk says, these shoes could change your life.

Pharrell was Happy in Custom Glitzy Sneakers at the Grammy Awards

Singer Pharrell Williams gave a memorable rendition of his hit, Happy, at the Grammy Awards last night. Even with the message and so much going on, I couldn't help but notice his bright yellow shoes.

FootBasket had a close up of the shoes and the details.

According to FootBasket, Pharrell's shoes were Adidas Stan Smiths. It makes sense, Pharrell does a collaboration with the sneaker brand.

Katy Perry wore shoes with 12,600 Swarovski crystals for the Super Bowl Halftime show

If you were performing in front of thousands of people and on millions of TV sets, what shoes would you wear?

According to People Style Watch, Katy Perry wore Custom LaDuca booties adorned with 12,600 Swarovski crystals when she performed for the Super Bowl's Half Time.

As you see in the above screen shots, the pop star wore the same shoes from start to end of the performance. Also check out the photos Moschino designer, Jeremy Scott shared on Instagram, embedded below.

I recently got to go to Kansas City and drove into Kansas to add a new state. Pardon the stereotyping, but I couldn't help but think of Dorothy and those ruby red slippers.

In December I visited the Smithsonian National Museum of American History in DC and got some ruby red slipper memorabilia. The museum normally displays the shoes from the movie, but unfortunately it was under construction and I was unable to see them. Still, for fans or shoe fans, the shop had some great souvenirs.

The first up was the above magnet which says "it's all about the shoes." How perfect!

Lady Gaga Returns in Platform Booties

Yesterday, Lady Gaga returned to the lime-light after hip surgery. She appeared on ABC's Good Morning America and debuted the video to her new single, Applause (above). The song is already stuck in my head.

Lady Gaga is known for her shoe choices, from shoes made of meat to heel-less shoes. Shoes similar to hers have sold out.

Given this, I was curious what shoes she would wear. After hip surgery would they be less tall?

Nope! According to Red Carpet Fashion Awards, the singer wore platform taupe suede Alaia booties.

More focus was on her face and dress, but you could see the shoes in the GMA wide shot.

Shoes for the Royal Baby: Part 3

New photos of the royal baby, Prince George Alexander Louis were released by Kensington Palace today. In a break with tradition, the photos were taken by Michael Middleton, Kate Middleton, the Duchess of Cambridge's father. 

Unfortunately, the picture's do not show Kate's shoe choice.

According to blog, What Kate Wore, the Princess is wearing a Knot Front Dress by Séraphine Maternity. The dress is $79 and is back ordered until September.

In more shoe related news, I am not the only one to speculate what shoes the royal baby will wear. The baby's shoes are not visible in the new photos. Yet, when I opened Parade Magazine today, I saw the article, What will Prince George Wear?

Happy 100 Posts Through the Sole!

Last post was Through the Sole's 100th post! It took over 3 years, but is an important milestone.

Fittingly, the last post was on the shoes Kate Middleton wore to bring her new royal baby home. The Duchess of Cambridge has been the most popular topic on Through the Sole, including the post to get the most hits, The Royal Wedding: Kate Middleton’s Wedding Shoes. The Princess is also the subject of the post to receive the second most hits, Royal Fashion: Kate Middleton’s Shoe Choices.

Lady Gaga rounds out the tops three most hit on posts, Celebrities and Shoes: The Wacky and Inspiring Shoe Choices of Lady Gaga. She is the second most popular topic. 

Other popular topics in this first 100 posts include ice skates, the royal wedding, Jeremy Lin and shoe statistics.

In the first 100 posts I also shared my experiences living through Hurricane Sandy, shoe shopping, and how shoes can make a difference.

Some of the Through the Sole topics may not seem so shoe like, such as the Planned Parenthood and Susan G. Komen for the Cure controversy, but I truly believe you can see the world through the lens of shoes.

Shoes for the Royal Baby: Part 2

Last week, The Duke the Duchess of Cambridge showed off their new baby boy. Later that week, they revealed his name, Prince George Alexander Louis.

Through the Sole wishes Will and Kate all the best.

While the world waited to see the baby, I couldn't help but wonder what shoes the new mom would wear.

Along with her Jenny Packham blue polka dot dress, Kate wore Pied a Terre Imperia wedges in white, according to What Kate Wore. They have a closed toe, with a sling back featuring a buckle. They have straw wedges.

Shoes for the Royal Baby: Part 1

Congratulations to Will and Kate, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge on their new baby boy!

Now that the wait for the future monarch is over, I can't help but wonder what shoes the future king will wear. With his mother's fashionable shoe choices, he will have a great guide.

It will be a few months before the royal baby is ready to wear shoes. The American Academy of Pediatrics suggests that babies do not wear shoes until they are walking outside, especially any kind of stiff shoes. Once a baby is walking, comfortable and flexible shoes with non-skid soles will keep a baby's feet protected. And be prepared to go baby shoe shopping, a pair of shoes will only last a baby 2-3 months.

Prabal Gurung for Target: Nice Design; Sometimes Poor Execution Part 1

Prabal Gurung brought his patterned clothing and fun femininity to Target. The designer is known for dressing both Michelle Obama and the Duchess of Cambridge, Kate Middleton. 

The Target collaboration includes shoes, clothing and accessories. After trying on both shoes and clothes, I found that the items well-designed and that they came at a nice discount (the most expensive shoes were $39.99, while most clothing ranged from $19.99 to $49.99). However, the execution varied, sizing was not standard and materials used were sometimes poor.

Neverthless, the collection drew large crowds and some items quickly sold out online. Not wanting to sleep out, I shopped online. If you spend over $50 shipping is free, and you can return items to the store. Also, if you keep checking, items become available after previously being sold out. I finally made it to my local store this weekend, and found that they still had some clothes and shoes, including items that were sold out online. A store associate said the items will likely go on clearance soon.

Lets discuss the shoes first.

Truth or Dare: Madonna to Launch a Shoe Line This Summer

The Material Girl shows off her fashion and shoe sense.

Some of the shoes from Madonna's upcoming Truth or Dare shoe line. 

The Material Girl is joining the ranks of celebrities, like Jessica Simpson, Fergie and Rachel Bilson, by launching a shoe line, Truth or Dare by Madonna. The line includes pumps, heels, flats, and boots, almost all black in color with embellishments like lace, cap toes, and studs. The line will include styles Madonna is famous for, like over-the-knee boots.

Retailing from $89-$349, the line is aimed at woman aged 27 to 5o who are timeless but have sex appeal, according to the press release as posted on all about Madonna. The line will include over 60 different styles, according to the Huffington Post.

Madonna will make some contribution to the design of her line. The creative consultant behind the line is Arianne Phillips, who worked on Madonna’s film W.E. and is a longtime fashion collaborator of Madonna, according to Glamour.
