“Sir, I want to buy these shoes for my Mama, please
It's Christmas Eve and these shoes are just her size
Could you hurry, sir, Daddy says there's not much time
You see she's been sick for quite a while
And I know these shoes would make her smile
And I want her to look beautiful if Mama meets Jesus tonight”(Lyrics from Elyrics.net)

The song is about a man running into a poor little boy while doing his last minute Christmas shopping. The boy asks the man to help him purchase shoes for his dying mother. The man hands over the money and is reminded of the meaning of Christmas.
The song has inspired a book and a made for TV movie.
The Christmas Shoes is by Christian vocal group NewSong and was released in 2000. It was inspired by a story found on the Internet (CBS, n.d & Wikipedia, 2010).
The song is designed to showcase the true meaning of Christmas. Although the song has remained popular, it has its critics. It made the Huffington Post’s list of top 10 annoying Christmas Songs.
The song was mentioned in Through the Sole’s first blog post in an effort to understand why shoes are so important to humans. It is interesting that a dying woman’s last wish is to have shoes. Although shoes are very important, it is surprising she does not want her young son at her side. Moreover, other items, such as a shirt or a dress are usually a bit more obvious.
